Saskia and Maia join us for Cosmic Kids Yoga

Today Saskia and Maia came for their final school visits. They start school on Monday and we are looking forward to them joining us. We had so much fun doing Cosmic Kids yoga - Mrs Blithe was impressed with our poses!

'Who Will Be My Mother?'

We have been reading 'Who Will Be My Mother?'  We decided to act it out at this afternoon's sharing assembly.  Mrs Blithe videoed us rehearsing.  It gave us a great opportunity to critique our acting abilities and see where we could improve.

'Hh' is for ... hot air balloon!

We had such a great time celebrating the letter 'Hh' last week.  Many thanks to students from our buddy class, Tumeke 12, who helped us colour in hot air balloons.  We think our display looks fabulous!

The Alphabet Song

We love singing the alphabet song. It helps us to recognise letters and learn the sounds they make.

Creative Play with Masks

Miss Farley donated some fabulous masks and high heel shoes to Room 1.  Luke, Mackenzie and Emily had fun with the masks.  They made up a wonderful story about animals playing with each other.

Emily's Writing

Yesterday Emily wrote a story all by herself.  Her writing had a capital letter, full stop, finger spaces and fantastic spelling.  Emily used her word card to locate the words she needed.  Tino pai rawa, Emily!

Firewise

Today marked the start of our Firewise unit.  Firefighters Pete, Dave and Nathan taught us about smoke alarms, making a 111 call, being safe around matches and firelighters, what firefighters do, and how to get out of a burning house safely.  Firefighter Dave put on his protective gear to show us how different he looks when he is fighting a fire.  We all laughed when Mrs Dyason got dressed as a firefighter too!

F is for ...

This week we have been learning about the letter 'f'.  On Monday we made a long list of interesting words that start with 'f'.  We had fun making fish bowls and jelly with floating fish.

Working Together

This morning we worked cooperatively to match pictures with letters/sounds.  We did a great job and Mrs Blithe was very proud of us!

T is for ...

Today we created turtles and assembled a tool box.  Emily brought along her tool belt.  She impressed us with her hammering and measuring skills.  A big thank you to Mr Heatley for helping us.

Ice Creams

Today we used our artistic talents to create ice creams, which begin with this week's letter 'i'.  Mr Barnett was so impressed that he took our photograph for next week's newsletter.  We are looking forward to seeing it!

'I' is for Inventor!

Today we put one of our 'i' words into practice and became inventors!  We worked together to plan, create, trial and perfect a marble run.  At the end of the day we had fun demonstrating it to our Mums and brothers.
